DIY: How to Remove Red Wine Stains from Your Carpet

What You Need to Prepare:

  • 2 Pieces Clean White Cloth

  • 4:1 baking soda paste (4 parts baking soda, 1 part water)
  • Wet-Dry vacuum

The Procedure:

  1. Using the clean white cloth, blot up the red wine stain from the carpet. Do this as soon as a red wine spill is noticed. Don’t panic as it might worsen the stain. (*wink!) In case you own a wet-dry vacuum, use it to remove the remaining moisture on the fabric.

2. The next best thing to do is to pour cold water onto the stain. Make sure you pure the right amount of water and not overdo it so as to avoid getting your carpet soaked. You will need to blot it up with another clean white cloth as much as you can.

3. Use the baking soda paste mixture on the red wine stain. Let it dry and then vacuum up. (In making the baking soda paste, you may at least start with ⅛ cup of baking soda depending on the severity of the stain. If you’d need more, make certain adjustments as long as the mixture is 4 parts baking soda then 1 part water.)

4. If a red wine stain remains, apply a carpet stain removal chemical. Follow the directions of the said chemical. Before applying, read the instructions first. Make sure you only pour the exact amount of chemical so as not to cause any more carpet damage.
